Keela Belay Smock Review

Keela Belay Smock Review
Well I’ve probably missed the ideal time of year for this smock in Britain as winter has now left us and a warm spring has already had me in shorts several times. I like getting ahead on seasonal goods though as it gives me a chance to make sure I’m prepared and I have plenty of time to get a bargain.

Keela Belay Smock ReviewThe insulation is a microfiber creation known as Primalof Gold. This is reported to be one of the worlds best clothing insulations and has some very interesting properties. It feels like you are wearing a down jacket which makes it incredibly soft and light, yet very warm, and it compresses down reasonably well. If you want something to keep in your pack for emergencies then this is definitely a good contender. It’s well padded Continue reading Keela Belay Smock Review

Blackhawk Tatang Review

Blackhawk Tatang Review
So let’ just make this clear from the start. This is a combat knife, pure and simple. It’s difficult for me to test it in that respect as I’m not from a military background, but as a knife enthusiast I’ve handled many knives and strait out of the box you can see this isn’t for doing some bushcraft or cutting some steaks in the kitchen(not that you wouldn’t look badass doing so). Blackhawk Tatang ReviewAs a general blade it’s pretty much pointless as it has a very specific design that isn’t tailored to general outdoor use. I think however, that this is an excellent knife for something like a bug out bag as it will definitely perform many of the tasks one might encounter in an urban survival situation. Being able to hack through steel wire and carve up some wood shavings for a fire, all Continue reading Blackhawk Tatang Review

Wazoo Survival Gear

Wazoo Survival Gear
So this is a relatively new company to the market, but they do seem to be pushing out some decent gear. They make survival bracelets and belts to zombie t-shirts and key-chains. I have a couple of items here from these guys just to get a flavour of what they are about, specifically their Cache Cap and Bushcraft necklace. So far I’m pretty impressed and here’s why.

The Cache Cap was something I was very sceptical about. I figured you wont get much in there as it is pretty much just a regular baseball cap, and anything you didWazoo Survival Gear put in there would feel more like a hindrance. I though, if anything, I would just use it to store some cash, but I was actually surprised by what you can do with it. It has 6 pockets i Continue reading Wazoo Survival Gear

Ultra Dry Adventurer Dry Sack

Ultra Dry Adventurer Dry Sack

Well this isn’t going to be a lengthy review, but I thought this was worth giving a bit of attention to. I’ve bought really cheap dry sacks in the past from superstores,Ultra Dry Adventurer Dry Sack just because they were in front of me in an outdoor section, but I never figured there would be a bigger quality difference as price went up. I was pleasantly surprised when I was wrong. I don’t think this is expensive, but I certainly feel like my kit will be much better off inside this that the others I’ve carried. It’s made of a 500D polymer which feels slightly rubbery and is definitely thicker than its cheaper counterparts. The seams have been ‘thermo welded’ to ensure no leakage and the straps have been reinforced for security an Continue reading Ultra Dry Adventurer Dry Sack

Mechanix M-PACT 3 Review

Mechanix M-Pact 3 Review

We got our hands on (well in) some great tactical gloves by Mechanix Wear and we loved them. I do a lot of outdoor activities, so I wanted some gloves that would cover most of my tasks and save me having to swap out or carry multiple pairs when I’m out and about. So when I discovered the Mechanix Wear range, I was Mechanix M-PACT 3 Revieweager to get some and find out if they were up to the task. I browsed their many departments and options to get an idea of what they had in stock and then I wrote a list of activities I usually undertake to give myself some idea of what might work out best. I do some hiking and climbing (when I have to), some bushcraft and chopping wood and generally I have two pairs at any one time, one pair are for warmth and one pair are just some general Continue reading Mechanix M-PACT 3 Review

ESEE 6 Review

ESEE 6 Review

This is so important that it needs to be said before anything-else in this review. ESEE have a LIFETIME warranty on their knives that is 100% guaranteed against any break or damage without question. That is the quality and assurance they provide with their blades and I dare say you wont find another company that would stand behind their products like ESEE do. It doesn’t matter how many times its been traded or sold, in the highly unlikely event of it breaking for any reason what-so-ever, you are guaranteed an exact replacement of the blade. Who can argue with that? Only an idiot, and as ESEE say ‘We would rather idiots not buy our knives’. I really like these guys.

Well its going to be really hard not to keep mentioning the Ontario RAT-7 in this review, but most of you know that ESEE was founded by a couple of guys (Mike Perrin and Jeff Randall) who helped develop some Ontario knives (amongst other endeavours) and this is basically a Continue reading ESEE 6 Review
